January 1, 2007 - Patricia Conroy Performs for Troops Overseas

Looking forward to a year of touring and promotion around the release of her new album, Conroy closed 2006 with a tour of Germany, Egypt and Belgium to perform for Canadian troops stationed overseas. The two week December tour was comprised of a star-studded cast that included Conroy, Canadian Idol winner Melissa O'Neil, comedian Will Davis, and french artist Ginette Genereux.

The group had three days to put the show together at the main forces training centre in Montreal, before launching it with two performances there. The crew then made the long trek to Europe for shows at forces bases in Germany and Belgium, before heading off to Cairo, Egypt.

"We did two shows at the Multinational Forces Observers (MFO) bases, which was a five-hour drive from Cario, across the Sinai River and really close to Israel," commented Conroy. "We had to have a military escort, because of the increased threat of terrorism in the area."

At the MFO base, the performers entertained hundreds of troops, which, as well as Canada, included soldiers from Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., France, Hungary, Columbia, and Fiji.

"It was a whirlwind tour," commented Conroy, who wished she could spend more time in each location with the troops.

A personally rewarding voyage for certain, Patricia say of her experience: "I had the trip of a lifetime and would do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks to our brave men and women for all their kindness and the wonderful memories!"
